These aircraft compete for market leadership in the short and medium range aircraft market. The Boeing 737 was introduced in 1968 and is the best-selling airline jet in the history of aviation. That is a record that the A320 cannot compete with as it was introduced 20 years later than its competitor. However, the A320 has had a commercial success that now allows it to keep pace with the memorable Boeing 737. 

In addition to competing for airline attention, both the 737 and A320 have significant market shares in the corporate aviation market. Both are very important within the so-called Boeing Business Jets and Airbus Corporate Jets, the corporate variant sets of Boeing and Airbus aircraft. 

Though they are almost equal, they have different cockpits and the A320 is highly automated and the flight control systems are not so much about the actual manual control of the aircraft by the pilot as about the management of the computer systems. Airbus a 320 is more efficient than Boeing 737 in all respects. Whether it's fuel efficiency or maintenance costs, Airbus A320 wins.

What's Expected in the Future?

The market for wide-body long-range aircraft seems to be relying on aircraft in the format of the new Airbus A350 and the Boeing 777 and 787. Some believe that this trend may end the continuity of the Airbus A380 and the majestic Boeing 747 projects. 

The commercial success of the Boeing 787, which reached record figures for the North American manufacturer, is evidence that what the market demands are aircraft with designs that prioritise efficiency. To meet this demand Boeing offers the 787 and is working on the development of the 777X. Airbus, for its part, offers the A350, which was originally intended to be simply a refurbished variant of the A330 and A340 but had to be completely redesigned at the request of the airlines as it was not a suitable aircraft in terms of efficiency compared to the Boeing 787. 

On the other hand, in relation to the market for short- to medium-range narrow-body aircraft, demand remains covered by the Boeing 737 and the Airbus A320, whose new variants are under development (Boeing 737 MAX and Airbus A320 NEO respectively). So by now you should have a pretty good idea on what type rating training to go for: Boeing 737 Type Training and A320 Type Rating Training will definitely be the basic to have availability of job offers in all airlines that cross the short- to medium-range flights connecting Europe. 

Or you can go for A380 Type Rating Training and Boeing 787 Type Rating Training if you are the kind that only likes to serve an aircraft that have just crossed the ocean in a long-range trip. But there is a constant among airlines: Whatever the model of the future, it should be fuel efficient, so you may want to get info on that aspect of any aircraft you consider for your Type Rating Training, as for sure those with the best efficiency levels will be the most demanded by airlines. 
 

The Type Training Centre

Once you decide on the aircraft, there are other things to consider. You know that Type Training program consists on a theoretical part and a practical part, so it’s important to verify whether the centre you are considering offers both of them, to be able to complete the course all at the same location. 

Take a look at the certifications of the centre, remember that it makes a huge difference if it is a Part 147 Approved Centre, whether the instructors are currently working and have enough experience, and other important aspects of the training centre such as the language in which the course is offered and the quality of the facilities.
